Device focus: Motorola Defy-ing convention.

It’s been a while since we’ve been taken with a cool looking device, but with so many new Android based devices coming to market it was only going to be a matter of time. The new Motorola Defy certainly fits into that category. It seems that Motorola have a applied some of their expertise from the rugged professional environment to their consumer handsets – wrapping a great looking device in the toughest of skins.

Designed with the accident prone in mind, the Defy is waterproof  to the effect of at least five minutes in water, to the depth of 1 metre therefore providing some breathing space for the forgetful of bather.

The Gorilla Glass screen means that the Motorola Defy is scratch proof, while its dust proof casing means that it will survive unscathed in the messiest of pockets.

Inside it packs 512 of RAM, 2GB of storage and the now slightly elderly 2.1 Android ‘Éclair’ operating system.

Motorola do promise that 2.2 Froyo update will be available later this year – although this latter point may partially explain why it’s possible to get the Defy on contract with Vodafone for as little as £20 a month.

Nevertheless, we think this is a great looking device and if the inside of your car is filled with the dusty detritus of modern day life or you fancy using CoPilot Live with your roof down in the rain, then the Motorola Defy is definitely worth a consideration.

Android update: Some of you have noticed an issue with memory size in the last update of CoPilot Live for Android. Please be assured that we will have these issues resolved shortly.
