Women's City Golf TournamentQuestion 1- iOS fans can take their love of Apple out on the green at the golf course in which country, whose 17th hole is an apple shaped island? A: USA. The Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima Valley, Washington is located in an apple orchard.

Question 2- This apple is BIG, but not the Big Apple. Which country hosts this huge fruit attraction? A: Canada. Yes, the “big apple” is actually located north of NYC in Colborne, Ontario!

Question 3- Which country invented apple pie? A: Even though there’s nothing more American than apple pie, the US of A can’t claim to have invented it! It’s originally from England with early apple pie recipes dating back to 1381.

Question 4-Which country is home to the largest Apple Store? A: Amsterdam boasts the biggest space for the famed retailer. The store (the country’s only one!) opened on March 3, 2012 and expands over 11,000 square feet. It also employs over 300 Apple geniuses who speak 14 different languages.

Question 5- A hotel in which country gave their guests 24-karatgold iPads to use during their stay? A:  United Arab Emirates. The luxurious Burj Al Arab hotel allowed their guests to use these unique gold plated 64GB iPads, priced at a measly $10,200.

Today, it is still Australia’s favorite apple and is now grown in around 15 different countries and sold across more than 30 countries worldwide

Question 7- Which country is this?  A: USA. That was a screenshot of Central Park in New York City, New York!

The iPhone5s and 5c are here!

September brings the age old tradition of school, apple picking and Apple picking! The new iPhones are here and this year – you get a choice! Apple isn’t just releasing one new flagship phone – their giving you variety in the shape of the iPhone 5s and the colorful iPhone 5c.

iphone5-copilot-usiPhone 5s

Aesthetically, the 5s is practically the same as the now discontinued iPhone 5, with the same case design, materials and screen size. It comes in gold or space grey but otherwise nothing new externally to report. Under the hood though, the iPhone 5s does include a few notable improvements and enhancements:

  • New A7 64-bit chip. Described by Apple as a World-first, the A7 is claimed to be twice as fast as the A6 found in the iPhone 5. Will users know the difference? It’s hard to say, as the 5 was no slouch, but it certainly prepares the way for faster performance for graphics-intensive apps – including possibly CoPilot in the future.
  • Fingerprint Recognition. Apple call this ‘TouchID’ – meant to provide a new way to secure your smartphone.
  • New and improved ‘iSight’ camera with dual LED flash, larger sensor and other enhancements. Apple claim the iPhone’s camera is already the world’s most popular, although – thanks to Nokia and others – it would be hard to argue that it’s the best in the world. For most though, the improved camera will probably be the greatest new feature in the 5s.
  • M7 coprocessor. Perhaps the most surprising new feature of the 5s is its new processor dedicated to measuring motion, taking that function away from the device’s main processor. In theory, this should allow location-based and fitness apps to track physical activity and movements more efficiently and reducing power consumption. It should also allow for more intelligent detection of speed and types of movement. We will be investigating this to enhance CoPilot’s walking and cycling modes.

5s verdict? Just like with previous iPhone ‘S’ models, the 5s takes the iPhone 5 and improves it, but only in an incremental way. That said, it should be enough to win-over those who want the latest and greatest iPhone. Will it tempt those looking for cutting-edge mobile technology and innovative new features away from Samsung’s Galaxy range? Doubtful, but it should enable Apple to bridge the gap until the (hopefully larger-screened) iPhone 6 arrives this time next year.

iPhone 5c

Many Apple fans and analysts had expected a cheaper iPhone to help address developing markets and to take-on iPhone-5c-CoPilot-USinexpensive Android and Windows Phone devices. The accepted perception was that the iPhone 5c would be aggressively priced, but have a plastic case and lower specs than the iPhone 5 to avoid competition with the 5s. But we see now that the 5c packs virtually the same specs as the iPhone 5, and is priced only a little lower than the 5s. Perhaps the best way to describe it is the ‘slightly less expensive’ iPhone. The case is plastic, but maintains a quality feel. What is most notable about the 5c is the different colors that users can choose from. The monochrome iPhone era of black and white is finally over and the colors extend beyond the case, with matching themes in iOS 7.

5c verdict? It seems that many observers were disappointed about the 5c because of it’s relatively high price. It is thought that this will prevent Apple from achieving a substantial jump in market share. However the 5c does offer a colorful and discounted version of what was the flagship iPhone. It can also be assumed that in a year the 5c will drop in price to the level of the now entry-level iPhone 4S.

For us, the new iPhones are great platforms for CoPilot. We hope they are successful, and we’ll certainly be working hard to ensure that CoPilot is optimized for them.

The Shiny (or should we say flatter?) New iOS 7

The much anticipated Apple event yesterday provided more details on what Tim Cook described as the OS that will “quickly become the world’s most popular operating system.”  We first got a peek at iOS 7 back in June and it appears the early buzz was pretty much on the money.   The shiny (or should we say flatter) new mobile OS delivers a complete visual overhaul with an all-new user interface, Control Center, smarter multi-tasking, iTunes Radio and an improved Siri now available in male or female voices.IOS_7_Home_Screen

The new look of iOS 7 features a slightly translucent-looking keyboard, redesigned icons and new buttons.   It’s a clear move away from the textured “skeumorphic” approach in previous iOS versions, where graphics were designed to emulate the “real world” (you won’t see the felt table cover in game center and leather stitching in Calendar). It’s clearly going to have implications for developers, many of whom will likely update their apps to compliment the new style.

iOS 7’s new Control Center adds the highly requested (and presently offered by rivals) quick access toggle bars to control brightness, switch-on flashlight, turn on airplane mode and do not disturb.   iOS 7 also brings new ways to discover apps and allows automatic app updates. This means CoPilot users will be able to download our latest app updates without taking any action.  If you still prefer to see the “What’s New” info to see firsthand what we’ve improved or added, you can always switch automatic updates off.  The choice is yours!

iOS 7 will be available as a free download for iPhone 4, 4s and 5 from September 18th.  It will also be available for iPad (iPad 2 or later), iPad Mini and iPod Touch (5th generation) although apparently owners of these devices may need to wait till October.

iphone_5s_5cWe were also formally introduced to the iPhone 5S and 5C. Both new devices will be available on September 20th with pre-orders for 5C starting this Friday, Sept. 13th.   We’ve been excited to see (and get our hands on) both devices up close and personal for some time and will report more on them later this week.

Our verdict?  As you can imagine here at CoPilot, we’re Apple fans and so it’s great to see iOS get a full make-over.   For many existing iOS iPhone, iPad and iPod owners, it’s going to feel a bit like getting a new device. To celebrate its arrival, we’ve got a few cool things in store for you.  So stay tuned over the next few weeks!

There are over 145 stadiums in the United States, all with their own unique atmosphere. Looking to find the stadium that offers a little more than football? Here’s a list to get you started:

Scenic Sports Spectator:

If you’re nice or nautical, try “sailgating” at Husky Stadium. If boats aren’t your thing, head to the CenturyLink Stadium to catch the SeaHawks play. This Seattle staple is home to over 30 craft beers so if you’re not enjoying the game, you can at least enjoy a variety of beer.

Foodie Football Fans:

Surprisingly, the same place that you can find an authentic Philly cheesesteak is the same stadium PETA touts as the #1 most vegetarian friendly stadium. Lincoln Financial Field offers up great local cuisine from the city of Brotherly Love including soft, warm donuts by neighborhood favorite Federal Donuts.

Preservers of Pigskin Past:

If you’re looking to get some history out of your football experience, why not head to the Superdome in New Orleans? This place has hosted more Super Bowls than any other stadium and is surrounded by a city rich in culture and American history. Or you could catch a game at High Points Solution Stadium at Rutgers University, the birthplace of college football.

No matter which Gridiron Gang you belong to, we hope you make it to and from the stadium with ease. Enjoy the game!
