CoPilot Premium for Windows Phone hands-on: ActiveTraffic aids your daily commute by Matthew Miller

“GPS navigation software is useful even for daily commuters when there is a commute option and CoPilot has that. Even though you know the route, with the ActiveTraffic service you can have the software check your commute for traffic and keep you updated with route options. You set the time and days of your commute and let your Windows Phone do the rest for you, which is how it should be.”

CoPilot Truck In-Cab Navigation App Updated With New Maps and a Refreshed User Interface

Includes up-to-date truck-specific attributes, POIs and new intelligent ActiveRoutes feature from ALK

Princeton, N.J. – October 30, 2014 – ALK, a Trimble Company and global leader in GeoLogistics® solutions and navigation software, announced today a new update to its CoPilot® Truck™ mobile GPS navigation app for iOS and Android. The update, v9.6.2, includes a revamped and restyled user interface (UI) and a full map update.

CoPilot Truck v9.6.2 is designed to provide professional drivers with comprehensive and accurate truck-specific navigation and is the only navigation app to offer ALK’s PC*MILER® commercial routing. The new version includes updated maps that contain truck-specific attributes not found in standard car GPS navigation apps. These include height restrictions, hazardous materials restrictions, truck-related points of interest (POIs), state mileage calculators and more.

“There is a fundamental difference in the GPS navigation needs of the truck driver as compared to the average commuter or traveler,” said David Quin, vice president of consumer applications at ALK. “CoPilot Truck addresses these differences by providing professional drivers optimal routes that can reduce costly out-of-route mileage, enable improved driver safety and assist in avoiding costly vehicle damage by calculating routes based on the size of vehicle being driven and load being carried.”

CoPilot Truck v9.6.2 also seamlessly integrates with the Drivewyze PreClear mobile-based weigh station bypass app, available separately from Drivewyze, to help drivers save time and money by bypassing weigh stations while following CoPilot Truck guidance. Drivers will also benefit from CoPilot Truck’s new ActiveRoutes™ feature that calculates routes using average road speeds at that exact time of day and day of the week they are scheduled to travel for precise routing.

Additional features include:

  • iOS 8 optimization
  • Improved graphics for iPhone 6
  • Reduced battery consumption
  • Automatic Cloud backup of recent places, favorites and subscriptions
  • Drag-and-drop trip editing to easily reorganize stops along your route
  • Connection settings with offline mode to help control data costs

Read the full list of CoPilot Truck North America and CoPilot Truck Europe features for iOS and Android at: www.copilottruck.com.

The update is available for free to all CoPilot Truck app users in North America and Europe.  CoPilot Truck North America apps are currently on sale for up to 33 percent off the standard price for a limited time and available on Google Play and the App Store.

Helpful Hint: ActiveRoutes Shows Your Best Way To Go

Whether you’re traveling on roads you know – or some you don’t – one thing is for sure: you don’t want to be stuck in traffic.

Powered by INRIX, our new ActiveRoutes feature will select the best route for you based on actual road speeds.

So if you’re used to taking highway 55 every morning at 8am but you’re running late and won’t get to that road until 9:30am, historically there could be slower traffic at that specific time. ActiveRoutes will actively (see what we did there?) route you to your destination faster by choosing a different way.

To select ActiveRoutes as your preferred routing method, go to Route menu and select Vehicle Preferences

ActiveRoutes  requires a subscription to our ActiveTraffic service. We offer you 12 months free ActiveTraffic when you purchase CoPilot Premium.

If your subscription has expired and you need to purchase ActiveTraffic, go to Settings > ActiveTraffic and select Buy Now.

New Tech Makes Weigh Station Bypass Easier

CoPilot Truck users know that cell phones and smart phones are no longer just for staying connected, but are helping truckers reach new heights in productivity.

2 milesAnd now thanks to technology developed by Drivewyze, smartphones and other in-truck devices can now use existing cellular networks to transmit bypass requests at weigh stations. This means that commercial truck drivers now have a choice in bypass programs, beyond the traditional transponder based programs.
Drivewyze is currently offering its bypass program at 333 fixed weigh stations and mobile inspection sites in 25 states, and works on a driver’s existing smartphone, tablet, or other in-cab device. The service also provides a free “heads-up” alert when approaching other weigh stations across the United States.

How One Owner Operator Saved $8,800 in just 12 months
Mike Shatney, an owner operator since 2006, has witnessed what Drivewyze can offer. Shatney, who hauls milk throughout the eastern seaboard, had a pull-in rate of just 3 percent over the last year – 1,053 bypass opportunities with 1,021 granted – thanks to Drivewyzebypass 2

On an average, Shatney has had about 60 bypasses a month, and saved nearly $8,800 in time and fuel over the last 12 months. That works out to 85 hours in time savings, and 408 gallons of fuel saved. Despite those numbers, Shatney said the reward in using mobile-based inspection bypass is more than just the fuel he’s saving.

“For me, the reward comes from getting good loads, and the ability to bypass while others are stuck waiting to go through weigh stations,” he added. “It saves me anywhere from 20 minutes to half hour at each weigh station.”

Check out the video to learn more about Mike Shatney’s experience with Drivewyze.

CoPilot Cares: Distracted Driving Awareness Month

cp-logo-straplineAt any given moment in America, 660 thousand people are using a cell phone or electronic device while driving. This is why the National Safety Council and others have dedicated April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

CoPilot takes distracted driving very seriously. We’ve always designed our apps to be as driver-friendly and non-distracting as possible. We believe that navigation apps should focus on navigation while the driver focuses on driving. Unlike other GPS apps, CoPilot doesn’t rely on or make users input information while driving.

There are also specific features in CoPilot that can help you focus on the road ahead while allowing the app to guide you to your destination. Here are a few.
