CoPilot Prepares to Hit the Road with iPad mini

iPad miniOnce again, an Apple product launch has dominated the tech news this week.  This time it is the unveiling of the 7.9 inch iPad mini. The new tablet is lighter, thinner and of course a little smaller than the full-size iPad. It’s also a little cheaper, although still significantly more expensive than similar sized Android tablets like the Google Nexus 7.

Here at CoPilot, we’re excited about the newest addition to the Apple family. Ever since we first launched an HD version of CoPilot Live designed specifically for iPad, we’ve been continually surprised by the number of people who use their tablets for in-car navigation. On Android we’ve seen the Nexus 7 storm into the top 10 most popular devices for CoPilot, while the Samsung Galaxy Note has been in our top 3 all year.

Speaking of other tablets, here’s a great comparison review from CNET of the iPad mini vs. Google Nexus 7 vs. Amazon Kindle Fire HD

The 4G iPad mini could very well be the best GPS navigation device there’s ever been, and CoPilot’s ready for it. Our HD apps provide fantastic split-screen navigation views, powerful trip planning, clear map displays and detailed voice instructions at every turn. The iPad mini is also a perfect size for in-car navigation and more portable than the full sized iPad.  Our iPhone navigation apps will run on the Mini too, although in x2 scaled-up mode.

Unfortunately, unlike most 7” Android tablets, WiFi-only iPad minis (as with other Wi-Fi only iPads) do not include GPS, so are unable to provide turn-by-turn navigation.

What are your thoughts? Will you be purchasing the iPad mini? If so, do you already own and iPad or iPhone?

Yes I have ordered an iPad mini specifically because I want to run CoPilot live on it. I have a 3G version on order.
