According to a reply in a previous blog post, “Android and iPhone quarterly map updates are available through free app updates downloaded from the Android Market and iTunes…The app update is available via Android Market. Once you have the latest version on your phone there are 2 ways you can download the latest maps to your device…We always announce updates here on the blog, on Twitter, Facebook and depending on what device you have, it should also alert you when a new version is available along with details of what that version includes. Please let me know if you have any other questions.”

I still have no idea what that first part means. A new, complete map obviously isn’t included with the app, since the app download is less than 20MB. Does the availability of this app update imply that a quarterly map update is also available?

If you really are announcing quarterly map updates here on the blog, I must be blind. I look at all the blog posts back through July 2010, and aside from the monthly map updates, the only reference to a map update was in an article posted on December 1st, and was specifically for iPhone users. What am I missing?

I still have no idea how I’m supposed to know when a quarterly map update (where I download a new, complete map) is available.

I think there is a problem with the app posted to When I go to install it the package name is com.alk.copilot.test

That extra .test prevents it from replacing my .406 install.
