Common iOS 4 Update Questions

We were thrilled to see our CoPilot Live app update was approved by Apple over the weekend—bringing you full support for iPhone 4 and multitasking in iOS4.

Thanks to everyone who contacted us over the weekend!  We’d like to respond to a couple of common comment threads we’re seeing:

CoPilot Live does not exit when you press the iPhone ‘Home’ button

One of the key enhancements brought by iOS4 is multitasking – the ability to run more than one application at a time on an iPhone. With CoPilot Live, this enables you to receive navigation guidance while on a phone call or using other apps.

However, as some have pointed out, there might be many instances where you want to exit CoPilot Live rather than continue it running in the background – one of the reasons being to conserve battery power.

CoPilot Live is already designed to switch-off GPS receiving after 10 minutes if a position fix is not detected for 10 minutes or more.

If you would rather exit CoPilot Live completely, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. Tap the iPhone

    Step 4

    Step 2

“Home” button once (Home button = the main circular button on the front of the phone).  CoPilot Live will disappear from the screen.

  2. Then tap the Home button twice to bring up the multitasking panel.  See image.
  3. Press and hold the CoPilot icon. After a few seconds the icon will begin to wobble.
  4. Press the minus ‘-‘ ball on the CoPilot icon to close the app completely.  See image.

TTS is not working on the 3G model

A number of customers have reported that after updating to the latest version TTS (Text-to-Speech) is not working on their 3G.  We are aware of the issue and are looking into why this is occurring on the 3G models right now.  We will update you here on the blog as soon as we have more information.

As always, we are reviewing all of the amazing customer feedback you guys give us on a continuous basis. We are doing our best to respond to everyone individually in a timely manner.   Please rest assured we are paying attention!

      Hi Harry,

No we do not currently offer the live traffic service in Canada.

      Thanks,
      Devon

Loving the update, but I’d love to see a Quit function right in the app menu. The four-step process above takes quite a few seconds and concentration on the phone, and since I do it *every time I leave the car* it’d sure be nice to just be able to shut down the app.

      Hi Denny,

Thank you for the great suggestion, I’ll definitely pass it on to our development team to consider in a future update.

      Thanks,
      Devon

I’m having major issues with CPL and my 3GS. I receive the text to speech “not enough memory” error sporadically and have to reboot to re-enable. Additionally, most spoken directions don’t work when CPL is in the background. Third, CPL doesn’t seem to mute or reduce volume on any multitasking music apps like Pandora. Love the app, but this update needs work.

      Hi Drew,

Have you tried freeing up some memory, this has helped other CoPilot Live users in regards to TTS issues.

Here are a couple reccomendations we have to help free up some space:

      1. Restart the iPhone, if that does not work try the following:
      2. Disable any push notifications including Push email
      3. Terminate all other background apps running while CoPilot Live is running

      Thanks,
      Devon

      Hi Andrew,

Can you specify what iPhone you’re using? Also please see below, these suggestions have helped many other CoPilot Live users.

For iPhone 3G or 3GS users who have upgraded to iOS 4 or have lost their TTS:

If you’ve upgraded to iOS 4, please note it will take up a large amount of memory on your iPhone which is why you’re seeing the low memory alert with your TTS on CoPilot. Here are a couple reccomendations we have to help free up some space:

      1. Restart the iPhone, if that does not work try the following:
      2. Disable any push notifications including Push email
      3. Terminate all other background apps running while CoPilot Live is running

Please let me know how it goes.

      Thanks,
      Devon

I reported the problem which is mentioned in this blog about text to speech not working on my Iphone 3G since the update of the Iphone operating system to version 4. Today I received a respons from CoPilot that I have to waite for the next update of Copilot to arrive. Is this information correct?

I am also having the problem with TTS on the 3G. It is not loading speech at all and says “not enough memory”. I hope there will be a patch for this forthcoming since this is an add-on that I had to pay for in addition to the software.

It’s not just the 3G or 3GS but the also the iPhone 4 that TTS is not working on.
Great app, anxiously waiting on an update!

Copilot NA on an iPhone 3G – I experience exactly the same failure of TTS after moving to IOS4.

If I totally remove CoPilot from the phone and then sync it (with no CoPilot), and then re-install CoPilot, the Speech panel is populated and the Frank voice does work again. ONCE. Even though I’m not running other apps OR Push Notification, the next time I go to use CoPilot the TTS does not work, and when I look at the Speech page in Settings, it is blank. Fully rebooting the phone (red slider) does NOT resolve the problem.

A MAJOR element of CoPilot’s very good functionally is COMPLETELY BROKEN.
